If you miss more than SEVEN days of school in one semester, the extra absences must be made up in Attendance Study Lab (ASL).
If you need to be absent, please understand it is YOUR responsibility to view the Google Classroom daily, write notes from the Classkicks, and complete any assignment by the due date. Due dates will still apply to you even if you are not here.
Absent on test day? You have ONE WEEK to make up your test. After one week the maximum grade you will be able to make will decrease 10 points each day.

Tardies one, two and three will be handled within the classroom and will be documented as such (I'll call home on the third one). On tardies four, five and six, a minor referral will be filled out and lunch detention will be assigned. On tardies seven and up, a referral will be sent to an administrator resulting in lunch detention or ISS and a call home.
On the eighth tardy, please be aware that privileges will be revoked. This means that upper classmen may lose the privilege to drive to school.

I do not allow students to turn in homework or classwork after the due date. If there are extenuating circumstances, please communicate that with me and I will work with you!
Learning does not happen while staring at your phone. Cell phones will not be permitted in the classroom during instruction. Every day you will turn your cell phone into your "pouch" in the back of the classroom.
If you are caught with your cell phone (or smart watch or headphones) I'll remind you to put it away. On the second offense you will put your phone on my desk and I will give it back to you at the end of class. I will also fill out a minor referral and call home.
I understand sometimes your parents need to get ahold of you. If this is the case, they can reach you during class changes or they can call the front office at 828-645-4221. Mrs. Hale at the front desk will get you the message!
*This is a school wide policy, as stated in the NBHS Student Handbook.

Food and drinks are not allowed in my class during class time, with the exception of a water bottle. If, for whatever reason, you need to snack in my room, please communicate that with me ahead of time.
To prevent distractions during instruction, you may use the bathroom at any time during class (without having to ask) as long as you follow these expectations:
- Your cell phone must stay in the pouches in the back of the room.
- You must sign out before you leave, giving the time you are leaving and returning as well as your name.
- Make sure there is only ONE person out of the room at a time.
- You may only leave once during class.
- You must keep your bathroom visits as short as possible. If you have been gone too long, I will come looking for you.
- There will be NO bathroom visits during the first or last 10 minutes of each class period.
